Preston-based Conlon Construction has chosen North West Children’s Support Group (NWCSG) as its charity of the year and aims to raise thousands of pounds in the next 12 months.
The construction company is an avid fundraiser and appoints a charity to support on an annual basis. Conlon selected Emmaus as its charity of the year in 2016 and through taking on numerous challenges and initiatives raised £15,000.
Its charity of the year 2017, NWCSG, was formed in 1976 and provides days out for local disabled and disadvantaged children. It also organises holidays for children, who might otherwise not be able to have one because of their complex needs or family situation, whilst giving some respite for parents, siblings and other relatives.
Conlon’s team have already set out to complete a number of fundraising challenges. They’ll be running in the first ever Ribble Way Run in September as well as taking on the Dragon Boat Race in Cumbria with all proceeds going to NWCSG.
Neil Conlon and Fiona Riley from Conlon also recently joined NWCSG on one of its holidays, took part in various activities and supported participating children throughout the day.
Michael Conlon, Chairman at Conlon Construction, said: “NWCSG is a fantastic cause and relies completely on gifts, grants, donations and fundraising initiatives so we’re hoping to give the charity a real boost in the next year.”
Angela Andrews, former group chair and holiday leader at NWCSG, added: “We are truly delighted to have been selected as Conlon’s charity for 2017. As a wholly voluntary organisation, it is a great challenge to raise the £50,000 budget we require each year to keep our services running.
“The amazing enthusiasm, support and generosity of Conlon is sure to be a major contribution towards meeting our 2017/18 funding targets. It will take the pressure off our volunteers and allow us to focus on organising and running the holidays and outings for the region’s most vulnerable children.”
