Readstone United JFC summer tournament took place on Saturday 7th July in the village of Read near Burnley.
Readstone was formed in 1989 and the club has held tournaments on and off throughout that time for junior teams participating from across the county.
This year’s annual fun day saw almost 200 children take part making up 24 teams in the 5 a side tournament across two age groups.
The under 7s took to the field first with Pendle Forest Warriors being crowned as winners in their age group. The team won the final 3-0 having won all of their group games without conceding a goal.
Next up were the under 8s who pulled out some great performances in the summer heat. AFC Wolves came out as champions in the final with a 2-0 win. They also didn’t lose a group game, winning four and drawing one.
Both winning teams received trophies and all participants were given medals and also goody bags each, which were provided by sponsors Farleys Solicitors.
Stephen Kerrigan manager of the Pendle Forest Warriors (Under 7’s winners) said,
“Pendle Forest Warriors U7s would like to thank the organisers and sponsors for a superb morning of football.
The event ran like clockwork, matches were played in great spirit and everyone had a smile on their face!”
Michael Eddisford from AFC Wolves u8s said,
“Having attended the Readstone tournament as a parent last year I saw how well organised it was and was keen to get my Under 8 side along this year. It certainly didn’t disappoint, the boys had a fantastic day. I also thought the goody bag from Farleys at the end, as well as the trophy, was a lovely touch. It’s our final tournament at 5 -a-side before the move to Under 9s and 7-a-side football and it was great to finish off with such a fantastic memory. I’d like to thank Readstone and Farleys for allowing us to come along”
